Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has urged the national government, through the Ministry of Health, to streamline the operations of the Social Health Authority (SHA) to ensure that all Kenyans benefit equitably from its services.
Speaking at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa during the Ash Wednesday Mass, Governor Wavinya expressed concerns over gaps in the current SHA system, which have created challenges for hospitals in delivering quality healthcare services. She emphasized the need for timely disbursement of funds to healthcare facilities to enable them to provide essential services efficiently.
“Let us receive the funds for the services we have already provided to our people. We need these funds to purchase medicine because many patients are coming to our hospitals, and the situation is becoming serious for us,” Wavinya stated.
Her remarks highlight the growing concern among healthcare providers regarding delayed reimbursements under the SHA framework, which affects the availability of essential drugs and medical supplies. As counties strive to improve healthcare delivery, proper funding and structured operations within the SHA are critical to ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
Beyond healthcare, Governor Wavinya also underscored the importance of fostering unity and collaboration between political and religious leaders. She noted that leaders, regardless of their positions, serve the same citizens and should work together to enhance the well-being of the people.
“Whether you are the President, Governor, MP, or MCA, we all lead the same people. Let us work together for the common good,” she urged.
Her comments come at a time when the nation is experiencing significant political realignments within both the government and opposition. Addressing this, Wavinya reaffirmed Kenya’s democratic values, emphasizing that every individual and political party has the right to choose their preferred alignment without coercion.
As the country navigates evolving political landscapes and governance challenges, Governor Wavinya’s call for unity and efficient service delivery resonates with many citizens who seek stability and improved public services.
