Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to police reforms as a key pillar in its broader national transformation agenda. Speaking during the official opening of the newly constructed Kasagam Police Station in Kisumu, Dr. Omollo emphasized that reforms in the security sector are vital in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all Kenyans, which he described as the foundation for sustainable development.
Dr. Omollo revealed that the government has already implemented 50 percent of the recommendations made by the National Taskforce on Police and Prison Reforms, chaired by former Chief Justice David Maraga. These reforms include enhanced salaries, improved housing, comprehensive medical and group life insurance, better training, and the rollout of modern technologies and facilities.
“We must equip, protect, and dignify our officers. When we empower them, we empower the nation,” he said, adding that the reforms are just the beginning of a broader initiative to strengthen security infrastructure and service delivery.
The PS commended Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir for allocating funds from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) towards the construction of the Kasagam Police Station, noting that the new facility will ease the workload for officers and boost efficiency in the region.
Dr. Omollo was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, NG-CDF Board Chairman Olago Aluoch, and MP Shakeel Shabbir. He also praised IG Kanja for his exemplary leadership in implementing the ongoing police reforms and highlighted a notable decline in insecurity, including reduced banditry incidents.
IG Kanja underscored the importance of community policing and urged residents to actively participate in maintaining peace and supporting law enforcement initiatives.
NG-CDF Chairman Olago Aluoch reiterated the board’s commitment to supporting the security sector. He disclosed that over the past two financial years, the NG-CDF has invested Sh1.8 billion in building police stations, chiefs’ camps, and administrative offices across the country to enhance service delivery and public safety.
