A night guard was brutally murdered during a violent raid at a petrol station in Hagadera, Dadaab, Garissa County, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The attack, carried out by a gang of three masked men dressed in military-style jungle clothing, has raised security concerns in the region.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Abdi Khan, was on duty when the assailants stormed the premises, armed with crude weapons. According to police reports and witness statements, Khan attempted to stop the gang but was struck on the head with a blunt object. He succumbed to severe head injuries on the spot.
Following the fatal assault, the attackers proceeded to the station manager’s sleeping quarters. After forcefully gaining entry, they bound the manager’s hands and legs with ropes before stealing approximately Ksh 60,000, the station’s daily earnings. The gang swiftly fled the scene after the robbery.
The manager, once free, raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbors who rushed to his aid. It was only then that Khan’s lifeless body was discovered nearby, bearing a deep head wound.
Law enforcement officers and forensic investigators arrived at the scene shortly after. A police report confirmed that a manhunt for the perpetrators is underway. Authorities have yet to establish whether the incident was a random robbery or had links to terrorist activities. The region, which is close to the Kenya-Somalia border, has witnessed past attacks by al-Shabaab militants, leading to heightened security operations.
The deceased’s body was transferred to the IRC hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations into the murder continue.

The police have launched a search for the suspect and are yet to determine the motive behind the fatal altercation. Kiptoo’s body was taken to the Nakuru County Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Both cases highlight the growing concerns over insecurity and violent crimes in different parts of the country. Law enforcement agencies continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help curb such incidents.
