The Selection Panel tasked with recruiting nominees for appointment as chairperson and members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has successfully concluded interviews for the position of chairperson. The exercise, which began on March 24, ended on March 26, 2025, with all 11 shortlisted candidates presenting themselves before the panel.
“We are happy to report that all 11 shortlisted candidates availed themselves to participate in the interview process,” said Dr. Nelson Makanda, chair of the Selection Panel.
The candidates who underwent the rigorous selection process included former Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi, Saul Simiyu Wasilwa, Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan, Joy Mdivo, Edward Katama Ngeywa, Erastus Edung Ethekon, Francis Kakai Kissinger, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei, Lilian Wanjiku Manegene, Robert Akumu Asembo, and Charles Nyachae.
With the conclusion of chairperson interviews, the panel will now shift its focus to interviewing candidates shortlisted for the position of IEBC member. The interviews for these positions are set to commence on Thursday and will continue until Friday, April 25, 2025.
Dr. Makanda reiterated the importance of all shortlisted applicants presenting valid clearance certificates from relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the Commission for University Education (CUE) for those with degrees from foreign institutions. Additionally, applicants must provide clearance from any of the Credit Reference Bureaus.
The panel has also invited members of the public to submit, under oath, any pertinent information regarding the suitability of the shortlisted applicants. Such memoranda should be submitted no later than five days before the interview date of the concerned candidate. Submissions can be made through registered mail, hand-delivered to the Selection Panel’s office at the County House Building on Parliament Road, or emailed as a PDF attachment to iebcselectionpanel2025@parliament.go.ke.
The recruitment process has attracted significant interest, with a total of 1,333 applications received for the position of IEBC member. Among them, 237 (17.77%) are female, 1,078 (80.87%) are male, while 18 (1.35%) applicants failed to attach their National ID copies.
The completion of this process marks a critical step in ensuring that the IEBC is adequately staffed with qualified and competent individuals ahead of the next electoral cycle.
