Security has been heightened across Nairobi as President William Ruto’s tour of the capital enters its fifth day. Police authorities have ordered full coverage, particularly in Eastlands areas such as Makadara, Buruburu, Umoja, Kayole, and Embakasi, which are considered security-sensitive zones.
Additional officers, including teams from the General Service Unit (GSU), Recce squad, and other special units, have been deployed to ensure public safety along the president’s route. The increased security follows a series of incidents that have marred the tour, including attacks and robberies targeting motorists and pedestrians. Authorities have also reported traffic-related incidents, including a fatal accident along Ngong Road on Thursday, where a presidential convoy vehicle hit a 79-year-old Briton.
Despite these challenges, Ruto has maintained an active schedule, engaging with residents and launching various development projects. On Thursday, he visited Lang’ata and Kibera constituencies, where he announced plans to improve local infrastructure, particularly in education and housing.
In Lang’ata, the president commissioned the expansion of the Lang’ata Technical and Vocational College, which aims to equip over 2,000 youth with skills for economic empowerment. He also launched the Southlands Lang’ata Affordable Housing Project, which will see the construction of 60 residential blocks housing 15,960 units, alongside two community centres and a primary school. These initiatives are part of his administration’s broader agenda to replace informal settlements with modern housing developments, ensuring better living conditions for Nairobi residents.
Ruto also emphasized the importance of education, particularly for girls, during his visit to the PCEA Booth Girls’ High School in Ngong’ Forest, Nairobi County. He pledged government sponsorship for 10 vulnerable girls from each of Nairobi’s 17 constituencies to join the institution, underscoring his commitment to improving access to quality education and promoting gender equality.
As the president’s tour continues, security personnel remain on high alert to prevent any further disruptions. The government reassures residents that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure both the safety of the president and the public during his engagements.
