Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has issued a stern warning against political intolerance and violence in Homa Bay County, emphasizing the government’s commitment to taking decisive action against perpetrators. His remarks come in response to recent incidents of political unrest in the region.
Speaking on Saturday at Sasi Primary School, Dr. Omollo called on leaders to prioritize service delivery instead of engaging in divisive politics. He underscored the importance of democracy, where all individuals have the right to express their views and seek support without facing intimidation or coercion.
“We will not condone any leadership that entertains violence. We are a democracy, and everybody has a right to speak and ask for support without any coercion or intimidation,” Omollo stated.
He further reiterated that the Ministry of Interior would not tolerate any acts of violence and vowed that necessary action would be taken against any leader found culpable of inciting or perpetrating political disturbances. His remarks serve as a reminder that the government is keen on maintaining peace and order, especially as the country navigates ongoing political engagements.
The PS also took the opportunity to urge the youth in Homa Bay County to refrain from being used as tools for political violence. He encouraged them to focus on constructive engagements that contribute to their future development rather than allowing themselves to be manipulated by politicians for selfish gains.
Additionally, Dr. Omollo addressed the education sector, calling on parents to ensure the smooth transition of students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) last year into institutions of higher learning. He emphasized that education remains a key pillar for national development and that students who did not meet university entry requirements should consider enrolling in Technical and Vocational Training Institutions (TVETs) to acquire specialized skills that would enhance their employability.
“The future of our youth lies in education and skills development. Parents should support their children in making the right choices for their careers, whether in universities or TVET institutions,” he said.
His remarks align with the government’s broader agenda of fostering national unity, promoting peaceful co-existence, and equipping the youth with the necessary skills to contribute to the country’s economic growth. With increased political activities in various parts of the country, the Interior Ministry remains steadfast in ensuring stability and upholding the democratic rights of all citizens.
Dr. Omollo’s call to action serves as a timely reminder that political maturity and tolerance are essential for sustainable development and progress in the nation.
