Muslim youths in Isiolo County have launched a noble initiative to support over 2,000 vulnerable Muslims observing the holy month of Ramadan. Dubbed the “Iftar Walk,” the campaign involves weekly door-to-door visits to collect food donations from local residents, ensuring that those in need have meals to break their fast.
The initiative, spearheaded by youth leaders such as Noor Sheikh, is built on the principles of unity and compassion. “This is a time for unity and compassion. Through these donations, we can make sure no one goes hungry during this sacred period,” Sheikh said, encouraging residents to contribute generously.
The Iftar Walk has already made a significant impact in the community, offering relief to struggling families. Ismail Alio, another key organizer, emphasized how vital the donations are in addressing food insecurity among vulnerable Muslims. “Some of them had no certainty of where their next meal would come from. This initiative brings hope for such people,” he noted.
Beyond its immediate goal of providing Iftar meals, the initiative has sparked conversations about long-term solutions to hunger in Isiolo. Fardosa Daud, a dedicated volunteer, expressed optimism about extending the efforts beyond Ramadan. “We do not want to stop at what we have already achieved. The aim is to establish sustainable solutions to fight hunger in our community,” she explained.
The overwhelming response from the community has demonstrated the power of collective action in tackling social challenges. The initiative has inspired generosity across Isiolo, with many residents stepping up to contribute food, money, and time to ensure the success of the drive.
As Ramadan progresses, the Iftar Walk continues to provide much-needed support to vulnerable families, reinforcing the values of charity and solidarity that define the holy month. The young volunteers remain hopeful that this spirit of giving will extend beyond the fasting period, fostering a long-term culture of mutual aid and community-driven solutions to hunger.
The Iftar Walk stands as a testament to the strength of grassroots efforts in uplifting the less fortunate, proving that small acts of kindness, when united, can make a lasting impact on the lives of many.
