Jesus Winner Ministry has moved to clarify President William Ruto’s Sh20 million donation pledge, following public debate over the announcement made during a church service on Sunday. The church’s Board of Management confirmed that the funds were meant to support its expansion project, part of a 10-year strategic plan.
During the service, President Ruto pledged a personal contribution of Sh20 million while promising to mobilize his friends to raise an additional Sh100 million to aid in the construction of a sanctuary estimated to cost Sh1 billion. The church’s Secretary General, Raphael Mwiti, emphasized that the donation followed a request by the church’s overseer, Reverend Edward Mwai.
“On the issue of His Excellency the President of Kenya, Hon. William Ruto’s donation to the church, we wish to clarify to the whole nation that he has been our faithful worshipper since the year 2009,” Mwiti stated.
He further explained that the church is growing rapidly and needs a larger worship space. “By God’s grace, the church cannot hold the current members, and our strategic plan is to build a bigger sanctuary on the piece of land we bought from Uchumi Supermarkets,” he added.
Amid concerns over the ownership of the land in Roysambu where the church stands, Mwiti clarified that Jesus Winner Ministry owns only three acres, while the remaining 17 acres belong to the Ministry of Defence. He also reassured the public that the Sh450 million used to purchase the land was raised by church members and through a bank loan.
“It is important to note that the Sh450 million paid to Uchumi Supermarkets was raised by our faithful members and funds sourced through a bank loan,” he stated, adding that the payment was handled legally through Kasarani Mall Limited lawyers.
The church reiterated that it remains financially self-sustaining and does not rely on public donations. Mwiti urged Kenyans to remain calm, following threats by a section of youth to storm the church on Sunday.
“We are a self-sustaining church, and we do not depend on donations,” Mwiti emphasized.
