The political fraternity in Kenya is in mourning following the death of George Oduor, a long-serving aide and bodyguard to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Oduor passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a city hospital, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, professionalism, and dedication.
Among those who paid tribute to Oduor was Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho, who described him as a close friend and a man of integrity. In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Joho expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of someone he considered more than just a patriot.
“It is with grief and a deep sense of loss that I mourn the death of my close friend, George Oduor. George was more than just a patriot; he was a man of integrity whose unwavering commitment and loyalty positively impacted many lives,” Joho said.
He further noted that Oduor’s passing leaves an indescribable void for those who knew him, adding that his humility, kindness, and selfless service would be remembered for years to come.
“In moments like this, words often fail to capture the depth of our loss. Yet, we find solace in his rich legacy of humility, kindness, and selfless service that will forever resonate in our hearts. May our prayers bring comfort to his family. We will miss you deeply, George. Your spirit will live on in the memories we cherish and the lives you’ve touched,” Joho concluded.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also mourned the loss of his longtime aide, highlighting Oduor’s unwavering dedication and professionalism throughout the decades he served. Raila described him as a vigilant and calm presence, not only for himself but also for the entire Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family.
“George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late ’80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He was a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide dedicated to his duty and a dependable rock by my side through tumultuous times,” Raila said.
The passing of George Oduor marks the end of an era for those who had the privilege of working with him. As his family, friends, and colleagues mourn his departure, they take comfort in the legacy he leaves behind.
