Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Justin Muturi, has revealed that his security detail was withdrawn on the evening of April 7, just days after his dismissal from President William Ruto’s Cabinet. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Muturi, a former Speaker of the National Assembly, said that two police officers who were assigned to his security were instructed not to report for duty the following day.
Muturi, who had become increasingly vocal in his criticism of Ruto’s administration, especially regarding the government’s handling of abductions during anti-government demonstrations, suggested that the move was a deliberate attempt to intimidate him. “If this is another attempt to intimidate me, they have dialed yet another wrong number,” Muturi said, dismissing the government’s actions as ineffective.
The withdrawal of his security comes after Muturi had been increasingly outspoken about his concerns with Ruto’s leadership, particularly over the issue of enforced disappearances targeting youth. The former CS’s son was among those abducted but later released, which led Muturi to boycott Cabinet meetings in protest. He had requested that the matter be placed on the agenda, but when no action was taken, he continued to voice his discontent publicly.
President Ruto, on the other hand, framed Muturi’s absence from Cabinet as a form of defiance, ultimately relieving him of his duties as Public Service Cabinet Secretary. Muturi, however, has strongly criticized the President’s actions, accusing him of lying and engaging in corrupt business dealings. He has also alleged that members of the Cabinet are being intimidated.
The removal of Muturi’s security detail is seen by some as a political move, with the former CS steadfast in his stance that his criticism of the government will continue despite these apparent efforts to silence him. As tensions between Muturi and the administration grow, it remains to be seen how this will impact his political future and influence within the government.
