Kajiado’s Deputy Minority Whip and Purko Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Simon Mumeita Saitoti, has passed away at the age of 42.
Kajiado County Assembly Speaker Justus Ngossor confirmed the tragic news, stating that Saitoti died on Tuesday evening at Karen Hospital in Nairobi. The first-term MCA had been undergoing treatment after being admitted on February 26, 2025, for a scheduled surgery. While the nature of his ailment was not disclosed, he remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following the procedure until his passing.
“The County Assembly fraternity has lost a gallant soldier, a leader, a friend, and a colleague,” Speaker Ngossor stated, adding that the assembly would take the lead in organizing his interment.
Saitoti was elected to the 3rd County Assembly on a Wiper Party ticket and was an active participant in several committees, including the House Business Committee, the Roads, Transport, Public Works and Energy Committee, the Trade, Investments and Enterprise Development Committee, and the Rules and Procedures Committee. His contributions to legislative affairs were widely recognized, and he played a significant role in county governance.
His passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from leaders across the county. Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku described Saitoti’s death as a significant loss to the county’s political landscape.
“We mourn a man who exemplified humility and service leadership, from his days in the disciplined forces to his tenure as an elected leader. He was a voice of reason and always advocated for diplomacy in resolving county matters,” Governor Lenku said.
Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho paid tribute to the late MCA, calling him a disciplined and exceptional leader. Kajiado Central Member of Parliament Memusi Kanchori noted that Saitoti had great potential as a young leader, while Nominated Senator Peris Tobiko described him as a vibrant politician who tirelessly pursued the interests of his constituents.
As the county mourns his passing, the county assembly and local leaders are expected to announce burial arrangements in the coming days. His dedication and service to Kajiado will be remembered as his legacy lives on.
