A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was stabbed to death in a violent altercation outside a private hospital in Likoni, Mombasa County, late Thursday night. Police have launched a manhunt for two suspects identified in connection with the incident.
The slain soldier, identified as Dennis Wesonga of the Kenya Navy, Mtongwe, had visited the hospital with friends to check on a female patient admitted to the facility. Witnesses say what started as a verbal altercation among the group quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation, prompting hospital security to intervene and order them out of the premises.
However, the quarrel persisted outside the hospital, where tensions flared, leading to a physical fight. It was during this scuffle that Wesonga was fatally stabbed in the stomach. The attackers fled the scene immediately, leaving the victim critically injured.
Wesonga was rushed to Likoni Hospital in an attempt to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency treatment. Police officers were soon called to the scene to assess the situation and initiate investigations.
Authorities have since identified two prime suspects and are actively pursuing them for questioning. “The individuals involved in the attack are known to us, and efforts to locate and apprehend them are ongoing,” said a senior police officer leading the investigation.
As of Friday morning, the motive behind the deadly altercation remains unclear. Law enforcement officials are piecing together details from eyewitness accounts and security footage to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Pandya Mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted as part of the investigation. Meanwhile, security has been heightened in the area as police work to bring the suspects to justice.
This tragic incident has sparked concerns among residents regarding growing insecurity in the region, particularly around hospital environments where altercations have been reported before. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers in providing any information that may aid in the arrest of the culprits.
As the investigation progresses, the Kenya Defence Forces and the deceased’s family are expected to issue statements regarding the loss. Wesonga’s colleagues and loved ones are mourning his untimely death, calling for swift justice.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspects is encouraged to report to the nearest police station to aid in expediting the case.
