A seven-year-old child who was kidnapped in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, has been safely rescued following a swift operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The child was taken on the evening of February 17, 2025, while with his parents at a local supermarket.
According to the DCI, the ordeal began when the boy’s parents were shopping, unaware that their child had gone missing. Upon realizing their son was no longer with them, the distraught parents launched an immediate search of the supermarket, but all efforts proved unsuccessful. Their nightmare escalated when they received a call from an unknown individual who informed them that their son had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Sh100,000 for his release.
In a desperate attempt to ensure the safe return of their son, the parents notified the authorities, prompting a rapid response from the local law enforcement. The Githurai Police Station swiftly took charge, initiating a coordinated operation to locate the suspect and rescue the child. The DCI’s statement highlighted the quick action of the officers, who utilized forensic methods to track the kidnapper’s movements.
The breakthrough came when detectives traced the suspect to a hideout in the Githurai Railway area. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the police officers, the suspect was apprehended, and the child was safely recovered and reunited with his grateful parents.
The DCI has confirmed that the suspect, a 33-year-old man, is currently in custody. He is undergoing processing and is expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to the kidnapping.
