Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to sustain their cooperation for the unity and development of Kenya. Speaking at Ntemwene Methodist Church in Imenti South Constituency, Meru County, on Sunday, Kindiki emphasized the need for national cohesion, citing the collaboration witnessed during Raila’s campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
Kindiki commended Ruto and other African leaders for their support of Raila’s bid, despite his loss to Djibouti’s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf in the highly contested elections in Addis Ababa on Saturday. He noted that Kenya had gained substantial backing from at least 20 African nations, an indication of the country’s growing diplomatic influence.
“Our day will come in the future. Even if we didn’t succeed, I pray that going forward, all the leaders will work together for unity so that we move the development of our country to the next level,” Kindiki stated.
The Deputy President stressed that national leaders must put aside political differences and work toward a common goal of peace and progress. He urged Ruto and Raila to replicate their collaborative efforts from the AUC campaign to enhance national unity and stability.
“We ask our President, the former PM, and all leaders to continue working together to build a united Kenya and secure peace,” he said. “We should work together in the same way we did for the AUC position.”
Kindiki also underscored the role of the Church in fostering societal harmony, urging religious institutions to continue praying for the country and supporting government development initiatives. He announced plans to meet Methodist Church leaders and bishops at his Karen residence to explore ways of strengthening government-church relations, including enhancing the operations of Kenya Methodist University.
In addition to his call for national unity, Kindiki revealed plans to meet with Meru County leaders and representatives on Tuesday at his official residence in Karen. The delegation will include the governor, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and over 3,000 representatives from various constituencies in the county.
“This will not be a political meeting. We are discussing development projects for Meru County, including water, electricity, roads, and other infrastructure,” he stated.
Kindiki’s remarks highlight the government’s focus on national unity, development, and engagement with local leadership to address pressing issues facing Kenyans.
