Authorities in Kisumu West subcounty have launched investigations following the grim discovery of a woman’s body in a borehole near Rota Beach. The 30-year-old woman, who worked as a caretaker at a fish fingerling rearing site, had been reported missing on Tuesday before her lifeless body was found wrapped in a bedsheet and tied inside the borehole.
According to local villagers, concerns arose when the woman failed to answer her phone, prompting a search around the fish farm. Their worst fears were confirmed when they discovered her half-naked body dumped in the borehole late Wednesday night.
Witnesses reported that the deceased was wearing only a skirt, and her upper body was covered with a bedsheet. Additionally, there were visible strangulation marks on her neck, suggesting foul play.
South West Kisumu location chief, Polycarp Omindo, confirmed the incident and stated that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had picked up the body to facilitate forensic examinations and gather evidence.
“The matter is currently under investigation, and we are working closely with law enforcement to establish the motive behind this brutal killing,” Omindo said. “We urge anyone with information that could help with the investigation to come forward.”
The shocking incident has left residents of Rota Beach and its environs in fear, with many calling for enhanced security measures to prevent similar crimes. Some locals expressed concerns about the rising cases of insecurity in the area and urged authorities to intensify patrols and surveillance.
“We are saddened by this heinous act. She was a hardworking woman, and we cannot understand why someone would do this to her,” said one of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The police are now treating the case as a homicide and are keen on tracking down any suspects involved in the crime. Meanwhile, the woman’s body has been taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Authorities have assured the public that they will leave no stone unturned in their quest to bring the perpetrators to justice. The community remains hopeful that swift action will be taken to ensure justice for the slain woman.
