In a chilling development in Laikipia West Sub-County, the remaining parts of a dismembered body, which had been discovered six days ago, have been recovered from Munyu Dam, located in Melwa village within Marmanet Ward. The gruesome discovery comes after the headless body of a man was found in a sack by local residents who were fetching water from the dam. The discovery prompted a search by local authorities, which culminated in the retrieval of the missing head, hands, and legs.
Local divers, who had been stationed at the dam since the initial discovery, managed to locate the body parts deep within the water, despite the perpetrators’ apparent efforts to ensure the body parts sank. The remains had been tied to heavy stones and logs, likely in an attempt to prevent the pieces from resurfacing. The divers, however, persevered and successfully recovered the dismembered parts, which had been submerged in the dam.
Marmanet MCA, Simon Kanyutu, confirmed that the body has since been identified as that of a local man who was both a potato farmer and a mobile trader. The identification was made possible through a distinct scar left by a metal plate in one of his legs, a result of an accident several years ago. The man’s family has reportedly confirmed the identification and is in mourning.
Francis Ng’ang’a, the area OCPD, confirmed the successful retrieval of the body parts and assured the public that investigations into the tragic incident are underway. The remains have been transferred to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation as the authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this horrific crime.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents grappling with the horrific details of the crime. As investigations continue, there are growing concerns over safety in the region and the need for authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
