Renowned journalist Nick Mudimba, who was a senior reporter at CGTN Africa, will be laid to rest on April 5, his family has confirmed. Mudimba tragically passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, after collapsing at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County. He was with his family at the time of the incident.
According to his relatives, Mudimba had been unwell and was diagnosed with high uric acid levels a day before his passing. He was prescribed medication on Sunday, shortly before he collapsed and succumbed to what preliminary autopsy reports suggest was respiratory distress. It was revealed that his airways were blocked, and his lungs were filled with liquid.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity, with colleagues mourning him as a dedicated journalist whose work left a significant impact. Mudimba had previously worked with KTN and Switch TV before joining CGTN Africa, where he served as a senior reporter based in Nairobi.
The burial arrangements are already in place, with a detailed schedule outlined by his family. A requiem mass will be held on April 3 at Holy Family Basilica, where friends, colleagues, and family members will have the opportunity to view his body and pay their final respects.
On April 4, Mudimba’s remains will be airlifted to Kisumu before being transported by road to his ancestral home in Busia. A mass will be held at his homestead on the same day. The family has also indicated that arrangements are being made for group travel for those who wish to attend the burial.
The budget for the funeral preparations stands at KSh 2 million, and daily meetings are being held to coordinate fundraising efforts. A fundraising event is set to be scheduled to meet the financial needs of the burial.
CGTN Africa has pledged to publish an obituary announcement in the local dailies in honor of Mudimba’s contributions to journalism. His untimely passing has left a void in the media industry, and his colleagues continue to celebrate his legacy as a hardworking and passionate journalist.
May his soul rest in peace.
