Police in Embu West have launched investigations into a brazen carjacking incident involving a motorist who was attacked late at night after pulling over to relieve himself along a roadside in Embu Town.
The victim, Charles Nyaga, was en route to Kitengela from his rural home when he stopped briefly near the outskirts of Embu Town. According to his account, two men suddenly emerged from the darkness, one wielding a knife, and ordered him back into his car.
“They forced me into the car and told me to move to the passenger seat,” Nyaga recalled. “A third man then appeared and took over the steering wheel, driving off at high speed.”
The suspects drove for several kilometres before the vehicle got stuck in the mud near Iveche. Nyaga says the attackers then robbed him of his valuables before fleeing the scene on foot, abandoning both the vehicle and their victim in a nearby farm close to Kangaru Girls’ High School.
Nyaga, though shaken, managed to walk to safety and reported the matter at Embu Police Station. He did not sustain serious physical injuries but was left traumatised by the incident.
Kamiu Location Chief Sammy Njagi confirmed that the incident came to light after local residents spotted the abandoned vehicle in a bushy area and alerted authorities. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Nyaga, who recounted the harrowing experience.
The Chief urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly when travelling alone at night. “Drivers should avoid stopping in dark, isolated areas. Always be aware of your surroundings and, if possible, find safer places to take breaks,” he advised.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since visited the scene and dusted the vehicle for fingerprints and other forensic evidence. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities hopeful that clues retrieved from the scene will aid in identifying and arresting the culprits.
Residents have also been urged to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station to help curb rising cases of roadside crime in the region.
