Preparations are in top gear for the swearing-in ceremony of Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma as the fourth Governor of Meru County. The event, scheduled for Monday, will take place at Mwendatu Grounds in Meru Town, with county officials ensuring that all arrangements are finalized for the historic occasion.
Dr. Kiambi Atheru, the Meru County Secretary and Chairperson of the Assumption of Office Committee, confirmed that the necessary preparations are complete. Event organizers are now finalizing the last details to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
According to Atheru, the ceremony will commence at 8:30 AM, followed by Governor Mutuma’s first official engagement at the Meru County Government offices. Here, he is expected to address county staff, outlining his vision and priorities for the county’s leadership.
After his address, the new governor will attend a luncheon, marking the conclusion of the celebrations. This event will be attended by various dignitaries, government officials, and Meru County residents.
Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma has assured the public that security measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of all attendees. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies will be deployed strategically to maintain order and ensure the smooth running of the event.
Ouma also encouraged Meru residents to attend the event in large numbers, recognizing the significance of this transition in the county’s leadership. “We urge residents to turn up and witness this momentous occasion as Meru welcomes a new governor,” he stated.
The swearing-in of Isaac Mutuma follows the High Court’s decision to uphold the Senate’s impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza. On Friday, March 14, 2025, the court ruled in favor of the Senate’s decision, thereby solidifying the removal of Mwangaza from office and paving the way for Mutuma’s ascension.
With the new governor set to take over, Meru residents eagerly await his leadership approach and policy direction. His tenure will be closely watched as he steers the county towards growth and development in the wake of a politically charged transition.
