Wajir County’s Dela Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Yussuf Ahmed Tolfiyow Hussein, who was allegedly abducted in September 2024, was found alive and reunited with his family in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
According to reports, Hussein was escorted to his family home by unknown individuals. The news of his return spread quickly, drawing a large crowd of friends and neighbors who gathered to celebrate his safe return. His family later took him to a Nairobi hospital for medical evaluation.
Authorities, including Nairobi police boss George Sedah, confirmed they had received information about the MCA’s return and planned to interview him to uncover the details of his disappearance. The motive behind his alleged abduction remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi expressed relief at Hussein’s safe return, acknowledging the months of anxiety the Wajir community had endured since his disappearance.
“Alhamdulillah! I am happy to have received the good news of Hon. Yussuf Hussein’s safe return and reunion with his family after months of uncertainty. The people of Wajir have endured a painful period of anxiety, prayers, and unwavering hope for his safe return. The news of his reunion brings immense relief and joy to our community,” said Governor Abdullahi.
Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow and Eldas MP Adan Keynan also celebrated his return. Keynan, a relative of Hussein, shared his joy on social media and addressed a crowd in their native language.
Hussein, who also serves as the Wajir County Assembly Minority Leader, vanished on the night of September 13, 2024, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi while heading home to Pangani from South C. His disappearance was linked to a broader series of abductions, with activist Bob Njagi claiming to have seen him in captivity.
Last year, a body discovered in Wajir initially caused confusion, with some locals believing it was Hussein’s. However, two separate DNA tests confirmed otherwise.
As the investigation continues, the circumstances surrounding Hussein’s disappearance and return remain unclear, leaving many unanswered questions.
