Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the serious corruption allegations made by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi against President William Ruto. Muturi, who was dismissed from his Cabinet position on March 26, 2025, has accused President Ruto of secretly conducting corrupt deals worth billions of shillings.
Speaking in an interview on Citizen TV, MP Mukunji emphasized the importance of taking Muturi’s claims seriously and conducting a full inquiry into the matter. He criticized the Legislature for its lack of action in addressing the allegations, urging lawmakers to fulfill their duty of holding the Executive accountable. According to Mukunji, the failure to investigate such serious corruption allegations is a disservice to the nation.
“It is not right to simply dismiss what Muturi has said. These are very serious matters that should not be taken for granted,” Mukunji remarked. “We need to do our job and ensure that such claims are investigated thoroughly. If found guilty, lawful action should be taken.”
Muturi’s allegations revolve around a deal worth Ksh. 129 billion, which he claims President Ruto attempted to force him to sign with Russian oligarchs. According to Muturi, the deal involved the planting of trees and would have violated Kenya’s financial regulations, which require such funds to go through the Treasury rather than being channeled directly to a Ministry. Muturi also disclosed that during his trip to COP 28 in Dubai, he was contacted by Ruto, who urged him to finalize the deal with the Russians at the airport.
Muturi, who insists his claims are not driven by personal grudges, has stated that he possesses supporting documents to back his allegations. He further clarified that his fallout with the current administration did not motivate the accusations.
As the calls for a formal investigation grow, the matter remains a significant test for the integrity of the current government, and it will be closely watched by both the public and the political class.
