Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has reiterated his commitment to advancing the interests of the Kamba community by ensuring they have access to leadership and professional opportunities across various sectors. Mutua, who chaired a strategic meeting in Machakos with Ukambani leaders and professionals, emphasized the need for regional unity and development.
The meeting brought together members of the Kamba Nation Agenda Technical Team, a group formed in January to spearhead efforts toward economic and political empowerment. With the upcoming Maanzoni 2 meeting on the horizon, discussions focused on key developmental concerns, including infrastructure, employment, and business growth.
Speaking after the meeting, Mutua announced plans to engage President William Ruto on issues affecting the region. “We are set to engage the President to discuss urgent development priorities, including road infrastructure, education standards, water resources, electricity provision, employment opportunities, business support, and professional appointments,” he stated.
Mutua underscored the importance of the Kamba community’s role in national development, calling for proactive participation in government initiatives. “The Kamba community is an integral part of Kenya and must take advantage of available opportunities to contribute to the country’s progress,” he said.
The meeting also served as a platform for professionals and youth leaders to share their perspectives on addressing the region’s challenges. Mutua pledged to hold extensive listening tours across Ukambani counties—Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui—as well as other regions with a significant Kamba population, including Nairobi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Taveta, Embu, and Kwale.
By engaging diverse stakeholders, Mutua aims to craft a comprehensive roadmap for economic empowerment and regional growth. His focus remains on positioning the Kamba community at the heart of Kenya’s development agenda while advocating for fair representation in government appointments.
As preparations for Maanzoni 2 continue, Mutua’s engagement with local leaders signals a renewed push for unity and progress in Ukambani. The outcome of his discussions with the President will be closely watched as the community seeks tangible solutions to long-standing challenges.
