Nairobi is in mourning following the passing of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, who died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kiambu. His untimely death has left a deep void in the city’s leadership, with tributes pouring in from across the political spectrum.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja led the county in paying tribute to Munuve, describing him as a passionate and dedicated public servant. “Munuve was a leader who carried the hopes and aspirations of his constituents with unwavering commitment. His voice in the Nairobi City County Assembly was firm and always grounded in the pursuit of better service delivery and dignity for the residents of Kariobangi North,” Sakaja said.
Sakaja highlighted Munuve’s significant contribution to Nairobi’s development agenda, noting that his absence would be felt deeply both in the Assembly and among the people he served. “Nairobi is mourning the loss of a community champion, and a man who believed in the vision of a working Nairobi,” the governor added.
President William Ruto also joined in mourning Munuve’s death, hailing him as a bold and enterprising leader. The Head of State praised Munuve’s leadership style, describing him as progressive and hardworking. “Mheshimiwa Joel Munuve was a bold, vocal and enterprising leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with focus and dedication. He had fresh ideas that changed the lives of many,” said Ruto.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to Munuve’s family, the people of Kariobangi North, and members of the Nairobi County Assembly. “We pray for strength and comfort for all those affected by this loss,” he said.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also expressed his sorrow, joining leaders in celebrating Munuve’s legacy as a servant of the people.
