Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has broken his silence following his removal from the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee. The outspoken legislator, who was replaced by Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi, stated that he was not consulted about the decision and only learned of it through media reports.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Nyoro expressed his surprise at the move, noting that no Kenya Kwanza coalition leader engaged him regarding the matter. “There is no one who has ever called me to say anything about this. I read in newspapers about myself. I also don’t know,” he remarked.
His removal from the committee sparked allegations that he had disproportionately allocated funds to his Kiharu constituency at the expense of other regions. In response to these claims, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah stated in Parliament that some MPs use their committee positions to favor their home constituencies.
Despite the controversy, Nyoro maintained a composed stance, refusing to retaliate against those who criticized him. “I would not be provoked to answer evil with evil. Neither will I be provoked to answer an insult with insult,” he said. He also emphasized that he harbors no resentment toward anyone in the wake of his removal. “I hold no grudge against anyone,” he affirmed.
Nyoro’s political silence in recent months has raised speculation, especially given his previous close ties with President William Ruto. His absence from major political discussions has been linked to his association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was ousted in 2024. This connection has led to theories that his removal from the Budget Committee was politically motivated.
As one of Kenya’s prominent youthful legislators, Nyoro’s next political move remains uncertain. His response to the committee shake-up suggests he may be treading cautiously amid shifting political dynamics within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition. Whether this development marks a shift in his political trajectory or is a temporary setback remains to be seen.
