Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has dropped a bombshell, claiming that his son, Leslie Muturi, was abducted by officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) on June 22, 2024. The CS’s shocking revelation involves an intricate chain of events and high-level intervention, culminating in the release of his son after President William Ruto’s personal involvement.
Leslie, along with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and Marangu Imanyara, had been at Alfajiri Lounge in Nairobi before the abduction. On their way to a birthday party in Lavington, armed and hooded men reportedly kidnapped Leslie, forcing him into a Prado and driving off. The CS was initially unable to reach NIS Director General Noordin Haji or DCI Director Mohammed Amin, and despite attempts to notify the police, there was no immediate resolution.
The situation took a darker turn when Muturi sent a message to President Ruto, explaining the ordeal. His first text went unread, but after consulting with Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, the CS’s calls for help gained traction. The President, aware of the gravity of the situation, personally intervened, calling Haji to inquire about his son’s whereabouts.
Muturi recounted that during their State House meeting, President Ruto humorously questioned why anyone would arrest a young person over the Gen Z demonstrations, referring to similar incidents involving the children of other officials. The President then instructed Haji to release Leslie, confirming his son would be freed within the hour.
Indeed, after the call, Leslie was released and returned home. The CS’s account sheds light on the complex relationship between state agencies and the power of direct intervention, revealing how President Ruto’s involvement was crucial in resolving the matter.
