Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has praised the people of Nyeri for their overwhelming turnout during President William Ruto’s visit to the county on Tuesday. Sudi, who was part of the delegation accompanying the Head of State and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, commended the residents for demonstrating unity and rising above political divisions.
The visit marked the beginning of President Ruto’s week-long development tour of the Mt Kenya region. His trip commenced in Laikipia County, where he launched and commissioned multiple projects before making a stop in Narumoru, Nyeri County.
“There were concerns about how the reception would be in Mt Kenya, but Nyeri residents have proved they stand for unity, not division,” Sudi stated. His remarks subtly referenced the ongoing political rift within the region, particularly the sidelining of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During his stop in Nyeri, President Ruto launched key infrastructural projects, including the Last Mile Connectivity Programme worth Sh850 million. This initiative aims to connect 10,000 households in Nyeri to the national electricity grid. Additionally, he announced a further Sh550 million to ensure that every home in the county has access to power.
The President also inaugurated a one-storey, 12-classroom tuition block at Narumoru Township Primary School, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to education. He further inspected the ongoing construction of Narumoru Market, which is expected to be completed within the next month, promising enhanced trade opportunities for local businesses.
As part of his Mt Kenya tour, Ruto will be stationed at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri, where he is expected to engage with local leaders and residents while unveiling more development projects. His visit is seen as a strategic move to consolidate support in the region, particularly amidst shifting political dynamics and emerging leadership contests.
The warm reception in Nyeri is a significant boost for President Ruto’s administration, as it indicates a continued stronghold in the Mt Kenya region despite the political realignments. With more stops lined up in the coming days, all eyes will be on how other counties within the region respond to the President’s development agenda.
