Detectives in Kisii town have arrested two suspected criminals and recovered a firearm in Daraja Mbili Estate following an intelligence-led operation. The suspects, identified as Gerald Nyambarika Okumu and James Ochieng, both aged 35, were apprehended while allegedly preparing to commit a crime.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the duo was intercepted at Texas Petrol Station while riding a blue TV Star motorcycle, registration number KMEK 866M. A search of the suspects led to the recovery of a Bernardelli Model 60 pistol, loaded with five rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, which was concealed by the rider, James Ochieng.
Further investigations uncovered four improvised metal bars designed for firing, hidden by pillion passenger Gerald Nyambarika Okumu, along with four mobile phones. The recovered items strongly indicated the suspects’ intentions to engage in criminal activities.
Both individuals are currently in police custody as detectives conduct further investigations to determine their involvement in other crimes within the area. Authorities have secured the recovered firearm, ammunition, motorcycle, metal bars, and mobile phones as evidence in the ongoing probe.
