Authorities in Githunguri Sub-county are investigating the mysterious discovery of a loaded firearm behind Githiga Police Station. The firearm was found by a local man working as a Community Service Officer (CSO) at the Chief’s office, who was clearing bushes behind the station when he stumbled upon a suspicious blue plastic bag. Upon closer inspection, he was shocked to find a Jericho pistol inside, fully loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The CSO, identified as Kaberu, immediately informed the officers on duty, and the incident was documented under OB 13/21/04/2025. This prompted a swift response from the police, with the matter being escalated to the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS), the Githunguri Sub-county Police Commander, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO). Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) from Kiambu were dispatched to process the scene and gather evidence.
Upon examination, the firearm, a Jericho pistol with serial number KE.KP.44321352, showed signs of partial rusting and mud exposure, suggesting it had been abandoned for some time. Preliminary checks revealed that the weapon had been previously reported at Limuru Police Station, with a reference dated February 16, 2025. The weapon’s history was linked to a police report filed under KPS/DIG/CENT/KBU/LIM/LIMTPS/S&C/2/VOL.I/52.
The firearm has been secured as evidence by the Sub-county Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) in Githunguri. Authorities are awaiting forensic analysis, and the investigation has been escalated to the County Criminal Investigations Office (CCIO) in Kiambu for further inquiries.
Investigators are now working to determine how the firearm ended up near a police facility and whether it is linked to any recent criminal activity in the area. The discovery raises serious questions about security in the region, especially considering the firearm’s proximity to a police station. The authorities have promised a thorough investigation as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this unusual and concerning incident.
