Two police officers are in custody following a controversial raid on a woman’s residence in Kamulu, Nairobi County. The officers were allegedly searching for Sh20 million, which had reportedly gone missing from a senator based in the Rift Valley region. However, their actions have now come under scrutiny, with allegations of torture, threats, and unlawful entry into the woman’s home.
The woman, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, reported the incident to Kamulu Police Station, prompting an immediate investigation. According to her statement, five officers arrived at her home on the afternoon of Sunday, February 9, claiming they had been sent by the senator to recover the money. When she denied knowledge of the missing funds, the officers allegedly forced their way into her house and ransacked her belongings.
During the raid, the officers reportedly took USD 15,000 and Sh200,000 from her suitcase. They continued to demand information on the remaining balance but were unsuccessful. Unable to extract further details, the officers allegedly forced the woman into a waiting salon car, informing her that she was being taken to Njathaini Police Station.
However, instead of taking her to the station, the officers made several stops along the way. At Kamulu shopping centre, two officers alighted while two others, including a female officer, joined the vehicle. The woman was then driven to Ruai and later to Mwiki near the local police station but was never booked in any police record. Throughout the ordeal, the officers allegedly subjected her to threats and psychological torture in an attempt to extract information about the missing funds.
The ordeal lasted through the night, and by Monday dawn, the officers returned the woman to her home. Fearing for her safety, she proceeded to Kamulu Police Station, where she filed a report. Senior police officers launched an immediate investigation and visited the scene to verify the claims. Their findings confirmed that two officers involved were from Njathaini Police Station in Mwiki.
Further investigations led to the identification of a vehicle used during the operation, which was found parked at the station’s yard. Two officers were subsequently arrested, and a search for the remaining culprits is ongoing. Authorities are also investigating why the officers failed to officially log the case in any police records, as required by law.
The woman, who claims to have suffered severe distress and threats to her life, has stated that she will seek medical attention following the incident. Meanwhile, the police have assured a thorough probe into the matter to ensure justice is served.
