Following the passing of Pope Francis, Bishop Dominic Kimengich of Eldoret has called on leaders across the country to emulate the late pontiff’s humility, selflessness, and commitment to serving the people. In his message of condolences, Bishop Kimengich emphasized the Pope’s exemplary leadership and urged local politicians to avoid using their positions for personal gain or materialism.
Pope Francis, who led over a billion Catholics globally, was known for his humble and inclusive leadership, always prioritizing the welfare of the marginalized and advocating for social justice. Bishop Kimengich highlighted the Pope’s ability to treat every person equally, irrespective of their status, and his relentless pursuit of a more compassionate and just world.
“Pope Francis was a leader who led by example, serving God and the people with humility,” said Bishop Kimengich. “He showed us all how to be close to God and to serve others selflessly. As we mourn his passing, I urge our leaders to take note of his example. Let’s not use leadership to show off or pursue selfish ambitions; instead, we must serve the people in sincerity and humility.”
The Bishop further appealed to local leaders to join hands in fostering peace and unity within the country, stressing that true leadership comes from a place of service to the people, not self-interest. He also encouraged prayers for the Pope’s soul, urging the faithful to continue the Pope’s legacy of compassion, peace, and service.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii also joined in mourning, describing Pope Francis as a voice for hope and social justice whose messages reached far beyond the walls of the Vatican. “On behalf of the people of Uasin Gishu, I convey our deepest sympathies to the Catholic Church, the Holy See, and all people of faith who found guidance in his leadership,” Governor Bii said.
Pope Francis’ death on Easter Monday has sparked widespread mourning worldwide, with leaders and Catholic faithful across the globe reflecting on his powerful legacy of faith and service.
