President William Ruto has strongly criticized Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, labeling him as incompetent in handling legal affairs.
During an Iftar gathering with the Muslim community at State House in Nairobi, Ruto expressed frustration over delays in establishing a Waqf, a charitable endowment where a Muslim dedicates property for religious, charitable, or public purposes. He attributed the setbacks to Muturi’s inefficiency, asserting that the matter should have been resolved much earlier.
The president reassured the Muslim community that under the current Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, the government would expedite the commission’s establishment. He emphasized the importance of addressing concerns raised by religious groups and pledged to integrate religious and formal education to create a more inclusive system.
Highlighting the significance of Waqf, Ruto acknowledged that its prolonged delay was unjustified. He criticized the previous administration of legal affairs, stating that it lacked the competence to handle the matter efficiently. With a new team in place, he assured that the government would act swiftly to finalize the process.
His remarks followed appeals from Muslim leaders, who urged the government to intervene in the issue. They expressed disappointment over the protracted delays, which had hindered efforts to set up the charitable endowment.
Muturi, on the other hand, has been vocal in his criticism of the administration, particularly concerning security concerns. He has raised alarms over the increasing number of abductions and accused the government of failing to provide adequate solutions.
Despite mounting tensions, Muturi dismissed speculation about stepping down from his position. He insisted that his role was to ensure accountability and transparency within the administration. He reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against any mismanagement, arguing that resigning would not address the pressing concerns facing the country.
Muturi defended his stance, emphasizing the importance of truth in governance. He maintained that if mistakes were made, he had an obligation to call them out and advocate for the rights of citizens. His continued critique of the government’s performance has placed him at odds with the administration, further escalating tensions within the leadership ranks.
The growing rift between Ruto and Muturi underscores deeper divisions within the government. As the leadership grapples with internal disagreements, the pressure to resolve critical national issues, such as security and legal reforms, continues to mount. The response to these challenges will likely shape the administration’s legacy and influence public perception moving forward.
As the government moves ahead with efforts to implement policy changes, the ongoing tensions within the cabinet could affect decision-making processes. The outcome of these internal struggles remains uncertain, but they highlight the complexities of governance and the delicate balance required to maintain unity within the administration.
Despite the challenges, the president remains focused on fulfilling his commitments, assuring stakeholders that necessary measures will be taken to address the concerns raised. The coming months will reveal how these political dynamics unfold and whether the administration can navigate the internal discord while delivering on its promises.
