Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has launched a scathing attack on the government, claiming that the only completed project under the current administration in Meru County was her impeachment.
Mwangaza accused the national leadership of succumbing to pressure from certain leaders in the county who pushed for her removal through the county assembly. She alleged that these leaders influenced the decision to impeach her, leading to a vote where 47 out of 69 MCAs supported her ouster.
Expressing her frustrations, she pointed out that as leaders from other regions lobbied for development projects to benefit their constituents, the focus of Meru leaders was solely on her removal from office. According to her, various leaders, including MPs, the senator, cabinet secretaries, and principal secretaries, united with MCAs to ensure her impeachment. She claimed that their efforts to pressure the government led to her downfall, as they threatened to shift political allegiance unless she was removed from office.
Mwangaza further suggested that the relentless push for her impeachment stemmed from the bitterness of certain male leaders who had previously lost to her in the gubernatorial race. She recalled her victory over prominent political figures in the 2022 elections, attributing their persistent opposition to unresolved political rivalry.
Determined to remain active in politics, she announced plans to form a new political party, which she said would be dedicated to advancing the interests of the people. Her vision, she stated, was to free the residents from political servitude and ensure they have a voice in governance. The new party, according to her husband, would field candidates for various elective positions, including governor, senator, MP, and MCA seats.
The former governor’s relationship with the ruling administration had once been strong, but it deteriorated following her impeachment. She partially attributed her removal to the influence of the ruling party, which she claimed played a role in orchestrating her ouster. Despite this, she remains committed to making a political comeback and ensuring her supporters have a platform to advocate for their interests.
