George Oduor, the longtime personal bodyguard of ODM party leader Raila Odinga, has passed away. According to sources, Oduor died on Wednesday evening at a city hospital after a period of illness.
His death has been met with an outpouring of grief from leaders and those close to him. Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai mourned Oduor as a mentor and a source of wisdom. “Rest in peace my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance,” Alai posted on X (formerly Twitter). “You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us.”
ODM’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale, also expressed disbelief and sorrow over the loss. “This is one man who stood by me at all costs. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest easy George. Wah!” Etale wrote.
Oduor has been a close and loyal companion to Raila Odinga for many years, serving as his personal bodyguard since 1994. Over the decades, he became more than just a security aide, forging strong bonds with many within the ODM party and beyond.
His dedication to ensuring Raila Odinga’s safety and his commitment to his role made him a respected figure in political circles. His passing marks the end of an era for those who have known and worked with him closely.
As tributes continue to pour in, many remember Oduor not only for his professional dedication but also for his warmth, wisdom, and mentorship. His contributions to Raila Odinga’s security team and the broader ODM fraternity will not be forgotten.
Plans for his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon as family, friends, and colleagues prepare to bid him a final farewell.
