President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting church development in Kenya, despite facing criticism over the large amounts he donates. On Sunday, Ruto contributed Ksh20 million to the AIC Fellowship Annex Church in Eldoret, doubling the Ksh10 million the church had raised in a previous fundraiser.
Speaking during the service, Ruto extensively referenced the Bible to justify his generosity, emphasizing his belief that Kenya should be a God-fearing nation. Quoting Daniel 11:32, he stated, “Those who know their God will be strong and they will do great exploits.” He further cited Matthew 16:18, where Jesus tells Peter, “You are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail.”
Ruto dismissed his critics, arguing that opposition to church funding is fueled by individuals who do not believe in God. “There is controversy because Satan has become so arrogant in this country. Very arrogant,” he remarked. He insisted that under his leadership, Kenya will continue to embrace faith and uphold religious values.
The President’s latest contribution follows a similar donation of Ksh20 million to Jesus Winners Ministry in Nairobi the previous week. He pledged to continue funding church projects to ensure they are completed, reaffirming that his actions are guided by Biblical teachings.
Ruto also linked his support for the church to addressing societal challenges such as drug abuse, alcoholism, and immorality among the youth. “There are people telling us that we should not be concerned about the moral standing of our nation. We should, we will, and we must,” he said.
His remarks come amid growing debate on the role of politicians in religious donations, with critics questioning the sources of the funds. However, Ruto remained steadfast, vowing to push forward with his mission to strengthen religious institutions in Kenya.
“As long as I am the leader of this country, Kenya will know God and believe in Him,” he declared. “That is my conviction, and I will stand by it.”
