Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Kenyans to pray for the opposition, stating that the country is heading in the wrong direction and only divine intervention can save it.
Speaking in Limuru on Saturday, the former vice president emphasized the role of prayers in guiding the nation.
“We are the people’s loyal opposition. Pray for us. We must allow prayers to guide our country,” Kalonzo stated.
Kalonzo revealed that discussions are underway to unite the country without discrimination. He expressed confidence that working alongside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with the support of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, would create a formidable team capable of bringing significant change to Kenya.
Referencing the 2007 post-election agreement with then-President Mwai Kibaki, which saw him become vice president, Kalonzo argued that such unity strengthened the nation. He believes that a similar alliance involving himself, Gachagua, and Uhuru Kenyatta would make Kenya stronger than ever before.
“When Kalonzo teamed up with Kibaki, did the country become strong or not? Now I want you to know that if we team up with Riggy G (Rigathi Gachagua) and Uhuru Kenyatta, we will be much stronger than ever,” he asserted.
He further disclosed that discussions are ongoing with leaders from various communities to forge a united front.
However, Kalonzo dismissed the idea of a broad-based government, a concept that emerged following the agreement between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to collaborate. This arrangement led to some opposition leaders from ODM joining the Kenya Kwanza administration as Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries.
Recently, President Ruto expanded his administration by creating an additional seven state departments, further incorporating opposition figures into government roles. However, Kalonzo and other Azimio coalition leaders have rejected this approach, insisting that they are committed to forming the next government. They are currently engaging like-minded individuals to forge a potential coalition.
With political realignments shaping the future of Kenyan politics, Kalonzo’s call for unity and prayers signals his determination to present a strong opposition that could challenge the ruling administration in the next elections.
