President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the success of the Social Health Authority (SHA), Kenya’s universal healthcare programme, despite the initial challenges in its implementation. Speaking during a Sunday service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, Nairobi County, the President assured Kenyans that while some issues may take time to resolve, the government is determined to make universal health coverage a reality.
“It is the biggest programme we have in the country. It may take time for things to align, but believe you me: It is going to work,” President Ruto stated.
The SHA, aimed at providing healthcare access to all Kenyans regardless of financial status, is a key component of Ruto’s administration. He acknowledged that past governments had struggled to implement similar schemes but insisted that his government would see it through.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja urged Kenyans to register with the SHA, emphasizing that the programme would be instrumental in ensuring access to quality healthcare.
Beyond healthcare, the President also spoke about the government’s job creation initiatives, particularly the export of labour programme, which he said was opening doors for Kenyan youth abroad. He commended Jesus Winner Ministry for securing employment opportunities for its members and encouraged other religious institutions to do the same.
“Instead of engaging in blame games, we can work together to find solutions to our problems,” Ruto added.
The service also brought together leaders from both the ruling party and the opposition, who pledged to support national unity efforts led by President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. MPs John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), George Aladwa (Makadara), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), and Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North) were among those who expressed their commitment to fostering peace and collaboration.
“There is a season for everything. We are now at the season of building the nation,” remarked Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje.
With political leaders rallying behind national unity and the government pushing forward with healthcare reforms, Kenya is at a crucial point in shaping its future. The success of the SHA will be a test of the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises.
