President William Ruto on Tuesday, attended the burial of the late Malava Member of Parliament (MP), Malulu Injendi, at his rural home in Lukusi Village, Kakamega County. Injendi, who was serving his third consecutive term, passed away on February 17 while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. He was 58.
The funeral service, led by the Catholic Church, brought together top government officials, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The church service was presided over by Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sawe, who eulogized Injendi as a focused and dedicated leader.
“We are not here to mourn but to celebrate his work because he was a man of great focus who knew what he wanted to achieve. He accomplished even more than he had envisioned,” Bishop Obanyi said during his sermon.
On Monday, March 3, 2025, Speaker Wetang’ula led government officials in a funeral service dedicated to residents and politicians in honor of Injendi’s legacy. He described the late MP as a dedicated public servant whose impact would be remembered for generations.
“As we begin this final journey with him, we take comfort in the impact he made and the lives he touched,” Wetang’ula stated. “We pay tribute to a man whose dedication to his work as a Member of Parliament was truly unmatched. His unwavering commitment to serving his people leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations.”
Leaders who spoke during the service emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and civility during the burial, noting that Injendi was a leader who always advocated for unity and harmony.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi also paid tribute to Injendi, describing him as a steadfast, visionary, respectful, and dutifully firm leader. He praised Injendi’s efforts in fostering national unity and implementing initiatives that improved the lives of his constituents.
As Kakamega County and the nation bid farewell to the veteran legislator, his legacy of service and commitment to development will remain an enduring part of his contribution to Kenyan politics.
