President William Ruto has expressed his deep sorrow following the passing of former Kajiado legislator Janet Marina, describing her as a passionate and distinguished public servant who dedicated her life to serving her people. Janet, who served as the Woman Representative for Kajiado County during the 12th Parliament, was remembered for her commitment to advocating for the rights of People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs).
In his tribute, President Ruto highlighted Janet’s selflessness and tireless work in uplifting her community. He said, “She was a selfless team player and an inspiring role model who motivated many to pursue their dreams, despite humble beginnings. Our sincere condolences go out to her family, friends, and the people of Kajiado for the loss of such a great leader. We stand with you during this period of mourning.”
Janet’s legacy as a resilient advocate for marginalized groups, especially those with disabilities, has left an indelible mark on the people of Kajiado County. Her story of overcoming personal challenges, including a childhood disability, is a testament to her unwavering spirit. As a young girl, she was saved by a social worker, and this experience fueled her lifelong advocacy for PLWDs. Her efforts were particularly focused on ensuring that people with disabilities were recognized, supported, and given the opportunities to thrive.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who also paid tribute to the late Janet, spoke of her contributions to Kajiado County, emphasizing her dedication to empowering communities and advocating for the rights of PLWDs. He noted, “Her contribution in Kajiado County on what hails our communities speaks volumes on her resolve, especially speaking and advocating for the people living with disabilities. This will remain in our hearts as a people.”
Janet Marina’s passing has left a void in both her community and the national political landscape. However, her legacy as a champion for inclusivity and resilience will continue to inspire many in the years to come.
