President William Ruto concluded a five-day tour of the Mt Kenya region on Saturday, April 5, with a firm commitment to fulfill the promises made to the residents. In a heartfelt social media post, Ruto shared a video montage of his visit and expressed his gratitude in Kikuyu: “Nĩ Ngatho Muno Murima!” meaning “Thank you so much, Mt Kenya.”
During his whirlwind tour, the President traversed key counties in the region including Nyeri, Meru, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Kiambu, engaging locals in marketplaces, town halls, and roadside gatherings. Accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Ruto used the tour to launch and inspect several development projects while reinforcing his administration’s focus on infrastructure, agriculture, education, trade, and youth empowerment.
In Nyeri County, Ruto inspected the ongoing construction of Ruring’u Affordable Housing units and Ruring’u Stadium. He also launched the Othaya Town Modern Market, one of ten new markets being constructed in the county to boost local trade and support small-scale traders.
In Kiambu County, the President opened a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute and a Jitume ICT Lab aimed at empowering youth with digital skills. He also inspected progress on the Mau Mau Road in Lari Constituency and launched the Githunguri Market to enhance local commerce.
Ruto assured residents that his visits to Mt Kenya will not be a one-time event. “I will be back here many times until the work you have assigned me comes to fruition,” he promised. He emphasized the importance of timely completion of all projects, stating, “We must ensure that our people benefit from all the projects we are implementing in the region.”
Highlighting the significance of performance-based leadership, the President reminded elected leaders of their duty to deliver. “You will examine all of us in 2027. I will be ready for that political test because I’m preparing for it through the actualization of all the promises I have made,” he said.
The President’s tour reaffirms his administration’s development agenda and commitment to the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
