The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast continued rainfall across multiple parts of the country during the period of January 28 to February 3, 2025. The rainfall will primarily affect the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the South-eastern lowlands. Meanwhile, the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions of Kenya are expected to remain mostly sunny and dry.
Residents in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley should prepare for consistent morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Counties such as Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Kisumu, and Nakuru are among the areas expected to experience this weather pattern.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, are likely to witness morning rains in a few areas. Occasional afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may spread to more areas as the week progresses. Counties affected include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.
The South-eastern lowlands Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta Counties are also expected to receive intermittent morning rains, with occasional afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms.
In contrast, most parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya are anticipated to remain sunny and dry. Maximum daytime temperatures in these regions are expected to exceed 30°C, with nights remaining relatively cool.
Turkana and Samburu Counties in the North-west will generally experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights. However, isolated morning rains and thunderstorms could occur during the first half of the forecast period.
North-eastern counties like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are projected to have sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy skies at night.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, will also stay sunny during the day. However, the South Coast may experience occasional morning and afternoon showers.
The weatherman has highlighted significant temperature variations, with daytime highs exceeding 30°C in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions. Conversely, parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Central Rift Valley may experience nighttime temperatures dropping below 10°C.
Residents are advised to stay updated on localized forecasts and plan their activities accordingly.
