A case of jealousy and rage unfolded in Kisumu’s Nyamasaria area on Wednesday night after a woman fatally stabbed her husband’s alleged lover before vanishing into the night.
The suspect, identified as Rosemary Achieng, alias Mama Boy, reportedly attacked 30-year-old Brenda Awuor at a boda boda base near Butter Toast stage. According to eyewitness accounts, Achieng had suspected her husband, John Ayima, of having an affair with Awuor.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Achieng allegedly confronted the two as they spoke near the boda boda shade where Ayima worked. In a fit of rage, she brandished a kitchen knife and stabbed Awuor multiple times in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Despite efforts to save her, Awuor succumbed to excessive bleeding, her cries for help fading as shocked onlookers watched helplessly. Police reports indicate that the deceased ran an M-Pesa shop near the boda boda base and had been rumored to be romantically involved with Ayima, a claim that had reportedly fueled tensions in the suspect’s marriage.
Witnesses say Achieng had confronted her husband about the alleged affair several times before the fatal encounter. However, it remains unclear whether the attack was premeditated or a spontaneous act of passion.
By the time authorities arrived, Achieng had disappeared into the darkness. A police manhunt is currently underway to track her down. The body of the deceased has since been moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The murder has shocked residents of Kisumu East Sub-County, with many debating the consequences of infidelity and how emotions can spiral into violence.
“This is heartbreaking. If she suspected something, she should have handled it differently. Now, two lives are destroyed—one lost and the other facing prison,” said one boda boda operator who witnessed the incident.
As police intensify their search for Achieng, questions linger about the circumstances that led to the fatal attack. Was it a crime of passion or a long-brewing storm that finally erupted?
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Achieng’s whereabouts to come forward as they piece together the events of that fateful evening. Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of Brenda Awuor, another victim of love turned deadly.
