Rescue operations are in full swing in Isiolo County following deadly flash floods that have caused widespread destruction, displacement, and left at least two individuals missing. Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo confirmed that a high-level emergency response team, led by Deputy Governor James Lowasa, has been deployed to coordinate ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
The county government is working in close collaboration with the National Government, Kenya Red Cross, and other humanitarian partners to deliver timely aid and support to affected families. Governor Guyo assured the public that immediate priorities include rescuing stranded individuals, relocating displaced residents, and distributing essential food, water, and medical supplies.
“They are assessing the damage, coordinating response efforts, and offering support on the ground. We are also working with the National Government, Kenya Red Cross, and other partners to deliver timely aid,” said Governor Guyo in a statement released on Saturday night.
The floods, triggered by a sudden heavy downpour, swept through multiple regions of Isiolo, destroying homes and infrastructure. Among the tragic incidents reported was the disappearance of two individuals after their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters near the KMC Bridge in Isiolo town. Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri said the vehicle, which belonged to local MCA David Lemantile, had three occupants. One of them, identified as Boniface, managed to escape unhurt, while a search continues for the two missing persons.
Authorities are compiling a detailed damage report to guide ongoing relief and long-term recovery efforts, including infrastructure repair and establishment of temporary shelters. The Governor expressed deep sympathies to all affected and extended gratitude to all first responders, volunteers, and partners for their swift and selfless actions.
“The dedication of our responders and the solidarity shown by partners reflects the strength and unity of Isiolo,” said Governor Guyo.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and follow official updates and safety advisories as weather conditions remain unpredictable in the region. The County Government has promised to provide regular updates through official channels.
