A political storm is brewing in Kajiado County as leaders allied to President William Ruto took a firm stand against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, urging residents to reject what they termed as divisive opposition politics.
During a National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) empowerment event hosted by Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire at the Kajiado Technical Training Institute (TTI), top Kenya Kwanza figures criticized Gachagua’s recent visit to the region. They accused him of sowing discord and offering no real solutions to the local challenges.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah led the onslaught, accusing the former DP of spreading misinformation aimed at discrediting the Kenya Kwanza government. “Walisema ya Ruto, Ruto siyo agenda ya wananchi wa Kajiado. Wanafaa kuwaambia kuhusu manifesto yao, sio kupaka wengine matope,” Ichung’wah said, urging the community to focus on development-driven politics rather than personality-based rhetoric.
Kajiado Central MP Memusi Kanchory echoed the sentiments, reminding residents that the true measure of leadership lies in delivery and accountability. “Mnapenda wanasiasa wakiwachekesha, lakini nyinyi ndio mnachagua wale watu wanapenda kuwadhalimu,” he said, pointing out the need for voters to be vigilant and deliberate in their political choices.
Leah Sankaire, who hosted the event, underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to empower marginalized groups in the county. “Leo kikundi yako ikifaidika, jua mkono wa rais uko hapo ndani,” she told the crowd, asserting that the development being witnessed in the region was directly tied to the president’s commitment to inclusive growth.
The leaders rallied the Maasai community to stand united behind President Ruto and resist attempts to polarize them through unproductive political sideshows. The NGAAF event, which brought together women, youth, and persons with disabilities, served as a platform to showcase government-led initiatives aimed at uplifting lives.
As the political temperature continues to rise, it remains clear that Kajiado has become a critical battleground in the ongoing power struggles within the ruling coalition.
