President William Ruto on Thursday held a consultative meeting with Members of Parliament from Mt Kenya counties at State House, Nairobi. The discussions centered on key development projects aimed at improving the region’s economic and social landscape.
In a statement shared on his X account, President Ruto emphasized the importance of continuous engagement with elected leaders to ensure the effective implementation of transformative policies under his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The President was accompanied by his deputy, Kithure Kindiki.
Among the major issues discussed were agriculture, infrastructure development, affordable housing, and fresh produce markets. The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing coffee, tea, and dairy farming sectors that are crucial to the Mt Kenya economy. Recent government interventions in these sectors, including price stabilization measures and subsidies for farmers, were highlighted as critical steps toward boosting farmers’ earnings and ensuring sustainability.
“Increasing collaboration with leaders at all levels ensures that the government’s development agenda is not only implemented effectively but also meets the needs of the people,” Ruto stated. “We are on course with our economic transformation agenda.”
Infrastructure development was also a focal point, with discussions touching on road networks, water projects, and market accessibility for farmers. The President assured the MPs that his government is committed to improving transport and trade infrastructure to facilitate business growth in the region.
Affordable housing, a key pillar of Ruto’s economic transformation plan, was another topic of discussion. The President reiterated that the government is prioritizing housing projects to provide employment opportunities and improve living conditions for thousands of residents in Mt Kenya.
Additionally, the leaders discussed the creation of fresh produce markets to boost trade and support small-scale farmers in accessing better prices for their produce. The government’s plan to establish modern markets was seen as a crucial intervention to enhance economic stability in the region.
This meeting underscores Ruto’s strategy of engaging directly with lawmakers to align development initiatives with the needs of local communities. It also reinforces his commitment to fostering economic growth through the Bottom-Up approach, ensuring that grassroots communities benefit from national development programs.
