President William Ruto is set to hold a mini-rally at Nairobi’s Kamukunji Grounds on Monday, marking the culmination of the first day of his weeklong tour of Nairobi County. This event will be the President’s first major political gathering since his recent agreement with ODM leader Raila Odinga, signed last Friday.
Ruto’s tour will see him traverse all 17 constituencies in Nairobi, launching and commissioning various development projects. His Monday itinerary focuses on Makadara and Kamukunji constituencies, beginning with the commissioning of Kamukunji Technical Vocational College. He will then inspect the Bangkok Fresh Produce Market and oversee the upgrading of Desert Pitch.
Additionally, the President will assess the School Feeding Programme at Zawadi Primary School and visit Shauri Moyo to review the Affordable Housing Project in Makadara. Later, he will launch the Nairobi Rivers Engineering Works before concluding the day with a rally at Kamukunji Grounds, a historic venue known for hosting opposition rallies and anti-government protests.
Governor Johnson Sakaja and several MPs across the political divide are expected to accompany the President during this tour. Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan will host Ruto on Monday, as the President seeks to solidify his new political alliance with Raila Odinga’s ODM party.
The political handshake between Ruto and Raila is expected to play a key role in shaping the 2027 election landscape. Governor Sakaja is perceived as a significant beneficiary of this deal, as Ruto’s tour positions him strongly for re-election. The visit will also serve as an opportunity for Ruto to market his alliance with Raila and reassure supporters about the benefits of their cooperation.
With the country closely watching this unfolding political realignment, the rally at Kamukunji Grounds will be a crucial moment for President Ruto to consolidate his support in Nairobi. As he embarks on this weeklong tour, the focus will be on how effectively he balances development priorities with his evolving political strategy.
