President William Ruto has announced the release of Sh950 million to revive stalled road construction projects in Nyeri County, assuring residents of his administration’s renewed commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
Speaking in Nyeri Town during his ongoing five-day development tour of the Mount Kenya region, the President attributed the previous delay in road projects to economic challenges faced by the country over the past two years. He, however, noted that with improved fiscal stability, the government is now in a position to finance stalled initiatives.
“This week, we have released Sh950 million to jumpstart all the stalled road projects so that their construction can continue,” Ruto told the crowd on Saturday, April 5.
The announcement follows appeals from local leaders who urged the President to prioritize the completion of projects initiated under former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration. Critics had pointed to the stalled roads as signs of neglect by the Kenya Kwanza government, particularly in the politically significant Mt Kenya region.
In response, Ruto used the Nyeri visit to reaffirm his commitment to the area, rolling out a raft of development pledges. He emphasized that the government would fulfil its campaign promises and ensure the region benefits from ongoing national development.
“We shall complete all those stalled projects to ensure we fulfil our campaign promises to the people of Nyeri County,” he declared.
Apart from road infrastructure, President Ruto also announced a major push for rural electrification in the county. He revealed that at least 10,000 households will be connected to the electricity grid within the next seven months. His government has already allocated Sh850 million for this initiative and pledged an additional Sh600 million by year’s end to ensure wider coverage.
While inspecting the Ruringu Affordable Housing Project, the President directed Energy Principal Secretary Kamau Wachira to implement the electricity rollout within the stipulated timelines.
The tour marks part of President Ruto’s broader strategy to strengthen his political base in Mt Kenya, assuring residents of unity, inclusivity, and renewed focus on delivering tangible development results.
