Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha, the father of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, will be buried on Wednesday, February 21, following his passing on February 9. The late Mzee Mkweha, who was undergoing treatment at Pandya Memorial Hospital in Mombasa, will be honored with a funeral service at Kamale Primary School, beginning at 9 a.m., before his internment at his homestead in Kamale village.
The burial will be preceded by a memorial service on Tuesday, February 20, at the family home, where friends, relatives, and leaders are expected to pay their final respects. The Kingi family has eulogized their patriarch as a wise, kind, and resilient man who left a lasting impact on those around him.
Announcing his father’s passing, Speaker Kingi shared an emotional tribute, recalling their journey together and the sacrifices Mzee Mkweha made to shape his son’s future. He described his father’s life as one filled with challenges, particularly due to prolonged health struggles that he had endured over the years.
“Dad, our Patriarch Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa has rested. I’m completely broken, Dad, especially when I remember the painful journey and struggles that you went through to make me who I am today,” Kingi said in his statement.
A particularly cherished moment between the father and son was during the 2024 December holidays when, for the first time in adulthood, they shared a dance together. Kingi recalled how his father, despite his health challenges, expressed sheer joy as they danced through Christmas Eve in Mjanaheri village.
“Since I attained adulthood, I don’t remember ever dancing with you, Dad. Not until December 24, 2024, during Christmas at Mjanaheri village when, for the very first time, we danced, danced, and danced together until sunset,” Kingi said.
He noted that his father’s happiness that day was unmatched, as they celebrated not just Christmas but also his remarkable recovery after years of battling ailments. Unbeknownst to him, it would be their first and last dance together.
Mzee Mkweha’s passing marks the end of a chapter for the Kingi family, but his legacy remains alive in the memories of those he touched. As the family and community prepare to bid him farewell, they do so with gratitude for the wisdom and strength he imparted. His burial will be a solemn yet celebratory event, honoring a life well lived.
