A n incident has rocked the Wich-Lum area of Siaya County after a three-year-old boy was found dead under suspicious circumstances following a domestic dispute between his parents.
The child, identified as Ian Odeny, was discovered lifeless in a thicket in Pap-Kado area on Saturday evening. Authorities suspect that his father, Kennedy Omondi, a 42-year-old fisherman based at Wich-Lum beach, may have murdered him after a quarrel with his wife, Lilian Anyango.
According to Edwin Juma, the Assistant Chief of Nyaguda sub-location, the tragic events began on Friday night when the couple got into a heated altercation. Witnesses report that a fight broke out between Omondi and Anyango, after which the father took the child and disappeared into the night.
Alarmed by their sudden disappearance, concerned locals and family members launched a search that lasted through the night. The following day, the child’s lifeless body was found dumped in nearby thickets, sparking grief and outrage within the community.
“The father is suspected to have killed his son and dumped the body in the bushes following a disagreement with his wife,” said Chief Juma. He confirmed that the police visited the scene and transported the body to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary for preservation. A postmortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Kennedy Omondi, remains at large. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a manhunt for him and is actively pursuing leads to bring him to justice.
Residents of the area have expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, with many calling for swift action and justice for the slain child. The tragedy has also reignited discussions around domestic violence and child safety in the region.
As investigations continue, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Omondi’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station. The community is now left mourning the loss of a young life that ended far too soon.
