Police in Muthangari, Nairobi, are investigating a fatal shooting involving a bodyguard attached to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed. The bodyguard, identified as Muhammed Yusuf Keinan, reportedly shot and killed a man during an alleged attack on Sunday night.
According to a police report, Keinan was walking home at around 8:00 p.m. when he was accosted by three men. During the altercation, one of the attackers allegedly grabbed Keinan’s Ceska pistol, serial number F4899. However, the officer managed to wrestle back control of the firearm.
“One of the men struggled and snatched his Ceska Pistol s/no. F4899 but he took hold of it by the muzzle and eventually recaptured it back. One of the men blocked him, and he shot severally in the air to scare them,” the report stated.
Despite firing warning shots, Keinan ultimately discharged his firearm, leading to the death of 38-year-old Amos Lang’at. The other suspects reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike.
Keinan sustained injuries to his arm during the encounter. He has since been disarmed and admitted to the hospital as investigations continue. Meanwhile, Lang’at’s body was transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police officers are working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Detectives have yet to confirm whether the incident was an act of self-defense or if other circumstances were involved.
“For now, we don’t have anyone in custody, but in due time, we will have gathered more information as we revisit the crime scene,” said one of the detectives handling the case.
Authorities plan to review CCTV footage from the area and collect statements from potential witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events before and after the shooting.
The incident has sparked discussions regarding security officers’ response to attacks and the broader implications of firearm use in self-defense situations. As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement is expected to determine whether Keinan’s actions were justified or if further legal measures will be taken.
More updates are expected as police continue gathering evidence.
