Super Metro Sacco Limited is set to resume operations after the Transport Licensing Appeal Board (TLAB) temporarily lifted the suspension imposed by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). The ruling, issued on Monday, March 24, 2025, grants the transport company the green light to operate immediately.
The board’s chairman, Adrian Kamotho, stated in the order, “An interim order is hereby issued staying the execution/enforcement/operation of the decision of the respondents dated March 18, 2025, suspending the operation of the appellant herein Super Metro Sacco Limited as a PSV operator.”
Super Metro’s operations were suspended on March 20, 2025, with NTSA citing non-compliance with road safety regulations as the reason. According to NTSA, the suspension was necessary to ensure the transport company met the Public Service Vehicles (PSV) Regulations, 2014, and other road safety measures. NTSA alleged that the company had multiple violations, including expired inspection certificates, road service licences, and speed limiter certificates. Additionally, the authority claimed that some drivers did not meet the required qualifications.
As part of the compliance conditions, NTSA required Super Metro to present 294 vehicles for compliance inspections and 42 drivers for retesting at the Likoni Driver Test Centre. The authority noted that 64 of the company’s drivers had failed a retest conducted on March 10, 2025, leading to the suspension of their licenses.
Following the court’s order, Super Metro promptly began addressing the compliance issues. On Saturday morning, the company presented its fleet for inspection at the Likoni Road Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre in Nairobi’s industrial area.
NTSA’s statement emphasized the importance of ensuring safety measures were in place before reinstating operations. “The decision was necessitated by the need to ensure the company is not only compliant but has also put in place adequate safety measures to protect passengers and other road users.”
The court’s decision marks a significant victory for Super Metro, one of Nairobi’s most preferred PSV operators, renowned for its efficiency and reliability. With operations now set to resume, passengers can once again rely on Super Metro for their daily commutes, provided the company fully adheres to regulatory requirements.
